Snake Archer
The Snake Archer is a ranged unit from the Ancient faction. They are equipped with the Snake Bow. |
Characteristics
The Snake Archer shoots snakes from its bow at a fairly high range, which deal damage on impact. After impact these snakes become units and move quickly, lunge at enemies to attack them, and can even be possessed by the player. In addition to being targeted and vulnerable by enemy units, snakes will die after successfully biting twice, or after a 30 second lifetime.
Enemies will prefer targeting and advancing toward units other than the snakes, if there are any such units in range, but the snakes will otherwise force a distraction.
While a Snake Archer's snakes actively participate in battle, they do not count towards their team's population and their team will lose if only snakes remain, similar to the Scarecrow's crows or the CLAM's clams.
Appearance
The Snake Archer appears as a Wobbler that is either red or blue (Depends on the team it is on) wearing a Chalcidian helmet and garb. It wields a bow decorated to look like a snake that is also loaded with a snake. It has a quiver full of arrows despite not using them.
Unit Voice
Usage
The Snake Archer is effective at creating distractions, and excels at killing units that are both fragile and unlikely to clean up the snake units, like the Sarissa, Archer, and Headbutter. Thanks to the snakes' short height, units that attack them will often waste their time, and can often deal friendly-fire damage to their allies.
Snake Archers alone are ineffective against mass fodder units like the Painter and Clubber, which inevitably close the gap with the archers with Units to spare. They fail against Ninjas, units which trample them, and units which close the distance quickly while ignoring the snakes. The Samurai can even deflect a projectile snake.
Oddly, the snakes can move so quickly that, when fired towards the ground, they may clip straight through and end up inside of the map, rendering them useless. The further a range these snakes are shot from, the higher the chance of this happening.
Trivia
- Before patch 0.1.4, the snakes were counted as their own units, which meant that they could still win the battle even if all placed units died.
- The Renaissance Update, patch 0.5.0, buffed the damage and speed of snakes, and the fire rate of Snake Archers, and making them more distracting, which make them much more effective.
- The snakes can be controlled in first person mode.
- The clothes of the Snake Archer is similar to the Ballista Operator.
- Much like many of the other ranged units, the Snake Archer will start to panic and lose its aim when a enemy gets close.
- The Snakes actually have more health than the Archer.
