Skeleton Warrior
The Skeleton Warrior is a melee unit from the Spooky faction. They are equipped with the Stiffy Sword and the Stiffy Shield. |
Characteristics
The Skeleton Warrior is the basic melee unit of the Spooky faction, and the cheapest and weakest unit in the faction. They may spook enemy units, causing them to flee out of fright.
Appearance
The Skeleton Warrior, unsurprisingly, is a Stiffy. It is dressed in ragged shorts, a Roman-style helmet and greaves. It wields a small shield and a sword. When it is killed, it collapses into bones. It makes rattling noises, and occasionally growls or roars in a wheezy, hollow voice.

Usage
The Skeleton Warrior wields a sword and shield, making it versatile in combat. However, it is somewhat weak, dealing moderate damage and being very fragile. Its main selling point is that it causes nearby units to become temporarily "afraid", preventing them from attacking and making them run away. This "fright" ability can frustrate enemy melee units, and drive enemies off ledges and into water.
A large enough group of Skeleton Warriors can also "trap" enemy units, cutting them down as they are unable to escape or fight back. It's worth bearing in mind, though, that this ability can backfire when fighting ranged units. If a group of Skeleton Warriors get caught up fighting a handful of ranged units, the rest may "retreat" to safety and resume shooting. It has been noted that boss units (such as the Pirate Queen) are somewhat resistant to the Skeleton Warriors' "fear" ability, and some other "mini-boss" units (such as the Knight) appear to be slightly resistant to it.
An interesting passive boost to the Skeleton warrior is that due to them being stiffys and the latter turning into bones when killed, they're less likely to be obstructed when marching in hordes as corpses would, due to the bones being smaller and spread out. This also applies to the Skeleton archers although in a lesser degree.
It's not known how this mechanic works, but "higher-tier" units do not immediately succumb to the Skeleton Warriors' spookiness like lesser units do. Their special ability aside, Skeleton Warriors are cheap and decent melee units. They attack similar to how Brawler units do, except that their attacks appear weaker, their shields are smaller, and they can have less heath.
It's worth keeping in mind that, unless they are saved by their shields, Skeleton Warriors will die to most enemy attacks. As such, Skeleton Warriors are best used in groups.
Trivia
- It used to cost 100 points.
- Upon first release, the pommel and guards of their swords used to be colored in gold.
- At one point, their pants were colored black.
- This was fixed in a patch later on.
- The fear effect makes units run faster than their usual maximum speed. Ranged units won't turn around and run, they will instead moonwalk backwards at high speed until the fear effect wears off.
- The fear effect freezes the attack cooldown, so even if you possess an affected unit, they won't be able to fight.
- While tougher units can't normally be affected by the Skeleton Warrior's fear, possession allows them to do so with ease. Simply attempting to cast the effect on a friendly unit and then immediately turning to face any enemy, whether weak or strong, will inflict the fear effect onto them.
- By doing this repeatedly, you can cause any unit to permanently be under fear, even units like the Dark Peasant and Super Peasant.
- This strategy is also unlimited in range.
- It's not known which historical period or culture the Skeleton Warrior is derived from. The armor suggests an Ancient Greek influence with the spartan-like shape of the helmet, the shield resembles a Scottish Targe, and the sword could be a Mycenaean Rapier.
- This suggest that it may have been a Gladiator of sorts.
- The skeleton warrior has a giant counterpart.
