Blackbeard
Blackbeard is a Secret melee unit from the Pirate faction. They are equipped with Blackbeard's Anchors. |
Location
If you look straight ahead on the Pirate Map, you will see a mountain. If you look around it you'll find a waterfall which has a secret cave behind it, containing riches. In the secret cave, you find Blackbeard's skeleton with two anchors beside them. If you stare at the anchor long enough, it explodes and you unlock Blackbeard. |
Characteristics
Blackbeard is a large unit carrying 2 heavy anchors, accompanied by a long, burning beard. It is one of the strongest units in the Secret Faction, as they can call heavy cannon barrages every few seconds, devastating groups and giant units alike.
Unit Voice
Appearance
Blackbeard wears a long coat and pants, as well as a boot with team-colored lining, as well as a peg leg replacing its left leg, cloth wrapped around its chest, a wide long beard, black hat with firelit strings protruding from it, and a giant anchor strapped onto each hand. Blackbeard has its own unit base in the files which can be accessed via editing them. It appears as a stretched version of the normal wobbler which normally is about twice the size of the average unit.
Usage
Blackbeard is a slow but dangerous unit. Inevitably being as tough as their historical counterpart was at his time of death, they can easily crush their enemies with its huge anchors, in addition to calling down a Cannon Barrage on their enemies. If the unit/units are either far enough away or in range, it will use its leap forward, slamming their body into the ground, dealing a lot of knock-back along with decent damage. It deals exceptional damage if it actually hits a unit instead of just knocking them back, though this is more likely caused by the anchor. Once it starts to fight, it will hit units with their anchors, and will occasionally spin, which is effective in throwing off swarming units.
In close-quarters combat, they can also kick enemies. It is great for fighting groups of medium-health units and can even fight the Pirate Queen. Blackbeard is highly effective against units that use knockback. Their heavy weight makes it quite resistant to being thrown around. Blackbeard is also extremely endurant, and in fact is slightly more so than a Pirate Queen. It can also be used as a sort of Wobbly shield, due to its large pool of hitpoints, which is similar to that of a Mammoth.
When Cheered enough (Along with Lady Red Jade, the Mace Spinner, and the Da Vinci Tank) Blackbeard becomes a tornado that is around the same size as Lady Red Jade's.
Blackbeard's Cannon Barrage makes it a powerful unit against large units like all of the Giants alongside the Da Vinci Tank and the Modern Tank, because of the very high damage of its cannonballs (Similar to Tank Round's damage), and the quick cooldown of their ability, and the large hitbox of these units, which guarantee that they will take several cannonballs, and it can take down the ice giant in 2 hits, but it is very inaccurate, extremely risky to call upon in close range to the opponent and is almost useless against small units.
Lore
Blackbeard Was One Of The Strongest Pirate Captains Of The Seven Coves.
However, With A Weak Spot For Treasure And Riches He Was Betrayed After Barely Surviving His Ship Sinking From His Biggest Heist Yet.
Poisoned By His First Officer, He Died Surrounded By His Riches. Legend Says The Gold Is Still With His Corpse.
The Elder Gods Later Reanimated His Corpse Giving Him Two Anchors For Hands To Create One Of The Most Fearsome Warriors In Tabs.[1]
Trivia
- The cannonballs from its ability can be deflected, even by the weak deflect of the Samurai.
- The real life Blackbeard, named Edward Teach/Thatch, would often light the strings of their beard to scare off enemies, similar to the TABS Blackbeard, although in TABS this is used for aesthetics rather than an actual feature.
- Blackbeard seemed like it was going to be the boss of the faction (for good reason, since Blackbeard is as powerful as the Pirate Queen) and most of the TABS community thought it was going to be, but it was later revealed that they are a secret unit.
- Blackbeard can beat the Pirate Queen half of the time in the 1v1, but it depends only on the luck.
- Blackbeard was one of the units worked on in the Pirate Faction back in the Closed Alpha for TABS, making it one of the oldest units in the game.
- In update 0.8.5, Blackbeard wouldn't wear clothes, resulting in Blackbeard appearing as a strange, black unit with flames circling around it. This unit became known as "Groove" to users on the Landfall Discord.
- Blackbeard's combat moves were found a while before the Pirate update released, and their model was leaked in 0.1, which was the first Early Access version. Its icon was also found.
- Blackbeard is one of the very few units to be based directly off of real life people.
- The anchors can be moved around (and apart from its hands) once it is dead.
- It is considered difficult to move around and successfully damage enemies while unit possessing them due to its large anchors.
- Blackbeard's anchors used to not come off it hands when they died.
- Blackbeard has a passive weapon skill. Enemy units will receive damage by touching Blackbeard's anchors, even when it is dead. Any unit that touches the anchors will take damage. This can be especially deadly if Blackbeard itself is moving them around.
- Blackbeard's cloth and shirt can be found in the Unit Creator. It is labelled 'Blackbeard Shirt'.
- By placing 30 cheerleaders near it (7 at least), you can turn them into one of the most powerful of the units that have the tornado ability, Mace Spinner, Lady Red Jade, Da Vinci Tank, and Blackbeard.
- It has the second highest hitpoint quantity for the non-Giant/animal based units after the Super Boxer and the 8th most endurant Unit in the game.
- Because of its passive attack skill, enemies that have a melee dodge ability will dodge its anchors even if they didn't attack them.
- This makes it extremely good when fighting units like the Shogun; mostly, the battle ends when it lifts their anchor to call the Cannon Barrage, and once the unit gets under the anchor and it gets caught in it, it proceeds kill the stuck enemy Unit.
- Blackbeard is one of the few non-giant/animal-based units that can survive a Ballista Bolt (along with Pirate Queen, Super Boxer, Blunderbuss, Haybaler, Cactus).
- Blackbeard is able to kill most of the units in the game in 1v1 battles, even some units with huge price difference, like the Ice Giant, Tree Giant, Artemis, Tank and Da Vinci Tank.
- Blackbeard can defeat all the giant units and the tanks most of the time, because of their big hit box.
- It can kill up to 3 Ice Giants(even with the whooping 15400 price difference) or 2 Tree Giants or 2 Samurai Giants or 3 Da Vinci Tanks on its own.
- Blackbeard can frequently defeat the Chronomancer in 1v1, if a cannonball fell on the latter.
- It used to cost 2500 at the time of their initial release.
- Blackbeard's Anchors, despite just how humongous it is in comparison to most weapons, are actually smaller compared to most real-life anchors.
