Peasant
The Peasant is a melee unit from the Legacy faction. They are equipped with naught but their Peasant Fists. |
Characteristics
The Peasant was the most basic Unit in the game. At first, it was the default unit in the Pre-Alpha, but was unavailable at the beginning of Early Access. After the release of TABS, its role as a spam unit was taken over by the Halfling, which had slightly more functionality by latching onto units. The Peasant was brought back as a Legacy unit and is the only one that is unlocked by default.
Appearance
The Peasant in its current form has hair, a team colored dress, some pants, socks, and shoes.
In older versions of the game the peasant had no clothes.

Tactics
A tactic with the Peasant is to place one or two of them in front of your main army to attract the opposing side towards the bulk of your army to prevent them from spreading out. Another way to use the Peasant is to use them in mass, as a horde of Peasants are surprisingly effective at soaking up hits and mowing down anything in their path. The only problems with this strategy is AOE (Area of Effect) damage attacks. Rapid-fire attacks coupled with retreating (Sensei and Chu Ko Nu only case as of now) also are able to take out large hordes of Peasants. High health Units are also a bit of a problem, as only a limited number of Peasants can attack a Unit at any one point.
Usage
The Peasant is good to use as a distraction for the Catapult and Ballista, letting other Units, mainly fast units, rush in and destroy. In levels with a lot of money, spamming them usually causes severe lag and may take a long time to finish it. However, due to the amount of Peasants on the battlefield, they are able to overwhelm the enemy providing there are no AoE (Area of Effect), or units capable of eliminating a horde. They can also break up enemy formation if you put 1-3 peasants in front of your main force.
Trivia
- Peasants were originally called Peasents. Their name was changed in the Pre-Alpha update, as that was a typo.
- "Peasant Army" is a term generally used when a large group of Peasants are spawned.
- Although not an ideal strategy, spawning mass armies of peasants on both lower-end and decent computers can be an easy way to beat most of the levels. The mass army causes the computer to lag to extremely low amounts of frame-rate, causing projectile units to have terrible aim. The Peasants will eventually overpower the opposing force, albeit it takes a longer time against stronger units. This "tactic" is effective against muskets.
- Large hordes of Peasants are commonly called "zombie hordes."
- The Peasant is the cheapest Unit in the game, costing only 30 points.
- It originally only cost 10 points.
- Originally the Peasant’s outfit would've been brown.
