Blunderbuss
The Blunderbuss is a ranged unit from the Pirate faction. They are equipped with the similarly-named Blunderbuss. |
Characteristics
The Blunderbuss is a heavily armored unit of the Pirate faction. They wear barrel armor that absorbs against almost all projectiles. They wield a blunderbuss that fires with ridiculous recoil that will blow them into the ground.
Appearance
The Blunderbuss appears to wear armor made from wooden barrel parts, with large straps around their arms, legs, and chest. Hence its name, they also wield a blunderbuss.

Usage
The Blunderbuss wields a blunderbuss and wears full barrel armor. The barrel armor protects it from projectiles such as arrows, swords (swordcaster) and other bullets, so it's not likely this unit will be killed with a projectile. The blunderbuss it wields has massive recoil, knocking the Blunderbuss down every time it fires a shot. Each shot is a cluster of 4 bullets, which cannot penetrate armor, rendering this Unit ineffective against shielded units, although in groups, the shield units often leave their backs and sides exposed to other Blunderbusses, making them able to be killed.
Despite their resistance to projectiles, they have a hard time dealing with bullets, as bullets can often pierce the armor more than projectiles do, and even if they do not pierce the armor, they knock Blunderbusses back, which buys more time for the ranged units. This problem can be somewhat alleviated with groups of Blunderbusses and/or other units since the bullet ranged units will have to shoot at more units but fighting against groups of Musketeers and Deadeyes will prove challenging even with groups of Blunderbusses.
Since the armor has a few joints here and there, a hit from each arrow or projectile might result to death, especially when they get knocked back from shooting the blunderbuss, since they're more open.
Blunderbusses are most effective in groups, especially against ranged units and weaker melee units, as the Blunderbuss can kill most weaker/ranged units in a single hit, provided all clusters hit, and most of the units will be concentrated at a few Blunderbusses, allowing the rest to shoot them down. Additionally, the groups help to deal more damage in less time, as each individual Blunderbuss fires in a different time, resulting in different reload times and therefore the speed of fire.
Trivia
- Blunderbusses were primitive shotguns, mostly used in the 17th and 18th centuries.
- The Blunderbuss in-game was initially misspelled as “Blundebuss”.
- This was fixed in an update.
- Its armor can withstand multiple Ballista bolts and even other heavy projectiles such as multiple harpoons from the Harpooner. If a harpooner shoots a harpoon at the blunderbuss, the harpoon just retracts.
- Like the Haybaler, it has a good chance of sponging musket bullets.
- In the UC beta, its hair was removed. The hair was restored in the full release of the update.
- Both the Swordcaster and Blunderbuss shared the same voice, but the Swordcaster's had an echo to it.
- This is no longer the case, as the Swordcaster now has new voice lines.
- The recoil seems to be its own ability.
- The Blunderbuss is a natural counter to the Harpooner, because it is ranged unit, meaning they aren't able to take a kick from the harpooner due to its halting nature nor can harpooner pull them because of the former's armor, so the blunderbuss will stay shooting at them until it dies.
- Blunderbuss armor works on custom units as well (if you give them any of the Blunderbuss's cosmetics).
