Vampire
The Vampire is a melee unit from the Spooky faction. They are equipped with Hungry Hands and the Vampire Bite. |
Characteristics
The Vampire is an extra close melee unit. They suck the enemy's blood, disregarding the exact place that they are drawing blood from or if another Unit is beating them up, and turns into a bat to reach far ones. They are unable to regenerate.
Appearance
The Vampire looks like a stereotypical vampire: It has fangs, slicked back hair, a beard, a high collar, and a small cape. They wear "classical" garments, like a sleeveless vest, and short pants. If it is far enough from the enemy, it transforms into a bat with the same hairstyle, and flies towards the nearest enemy (Much like the Scarecrow's crows). Once close to the enemy, it transforms back into a vampire.
Unit Voice
Usage
The Vampire approaches enemy units and latches onto them, draining their health (Causing the enemy unit to flash red as it takes damage). However, they are not particularly tough, and are easily overwhelmed by multiple units. Vampires in large groups, however, are very fast and mobile and are extremely hard to fend off unless you have AoE units like the Reaper or Pirate Queen.
When Vampires attack, they move to "bite" enemy units, pressing their faces up against their targets and usually pushing them over. This can be an advantage when fighting enemies with long-reaching melee weapons (Like Sarissa) or when closing up into ranged units, as the Vampire often cannot be touched once it is pressed up against the unit wielding it. In Unit Possession mode, however, the movement can sometimes miss entirely or even cause you to orbit an enemy unit, which can be an issue against ranged units. Also, during their biting, Vampires can take a little while to get back up again, which can allow for ranged or melee units to get a chance at attacking them.
Vampires can also be useful against range-heavy armies, as they move quickly and are small targets when they're in their bat form. Once they're within melee range of the enemy, and transform back into Vampires, most ranged units will be unable to shoot them accurately, leaving them free to attack.
If you possess a Vampire, you can you use it effectively as an anti-range distractor by turning as a bat, moving to the ranged units, and turning back into a vampire. This can also be done against siege units and is quite effective, although you should try targetting the operator as you can kill the operator quickly as opposed to attacking the siege weapon itself which is harder to destroy and can't be bitten.
Trivia
- When they bite units. they make slurping, chomping, or gobbling sounds.
- As a bat they retain some of their face and hair.
- The Clothes, combat moves, Health and its attack was leaked in the game files.
- Musketeers, and other ranged units are unable to kill a vampire alone, as their projectiles "miss" the vampire even in its normal form, but it works only one projectile at a time.
- The appearance of a vampire is reset when it turns into a bat, meaning that an alteration like a little foot disappear after bat-travelling.
- When you take possession of a vampire and turn from a bat into a vampire, there is a chance another vampire will spawn in. This is probably a glitch.
- The "flight" capacity of the Vampire is only illusory, as it is still following the ground. It means that it is unable to fly above the void or the water.
- If you transform into a bat via possession and fly towards an enemy reaper, the bat will be impaled by a tentacle but you can still transform back into a vampire with full health, this also applies with falling from heights, as all you have to do is get out of their body, and the Vampire will transform into a bat.
- The Vampire is able to cancel the effects of a Balloon Archer or a Firework Archer by changing form.
- Despite popular belief, the Vampire does not heal from dealing damage.
- While transforming to a bat or a vampire it leaves a poof of 2D bats, which will face you regardless of your camera direction.
- When in the bat form, the vampire is the second fastest unit in the game, just after the Super Peasant and before the Chariot.
- The Vampire Bat is actually a Sub-unit.
- If in a large group, vampires are able pin down much larger and stronger units such as the Jarl or even the King and eventually defeat them
