Katar
The Katar is a Miscellaneous melee weapon. It is not used by any unit and is found only in the Unit Creator.
Characteristics
The Katar is a unique push dagger that has a long, thick blade attached to a gauntlet. A cut with the weapon can cause moderate to serious damage. However, they have a slightly higher range than the daggers, while inflicting slightly weaker damage comparatively. After an attack, it will have a short cooldown before another swing can be executed.
Units using the Katar will swing it forward at their opponents. For a relatively short weapon, the dagger has a remarkable attack range. This is boosted by the lunge ability it gives to units, making them jump toward their opponents when attacking to close in the distance.
Historic Origin
The katar was made in Southern India, its earliest iterations being closely associated with the 14th-century Vijayanagara Empire. It may have originated with the mustika, a method of holding a dagger between the middle and index finger still used in kalaripayattu and gatka today. The real name is "Kidaari," derived from the term "Kedayam Ari" meaning the "Shield Splitter" in Tamil. These were also gifted to a tamil king from their Kaalatpadai general, and was worn to show respect by them to the soldiers whom qualmlessly risked their lives in battle. As it spread it became a sort of status symbol, and royalty was portrayed with one.
