Balloon Archer
The Balloon Archer is a ranged unit from the Renaissance faction. They are equipped with the Renaissance Bow. |
Characteristics
The Balloon Archer fires balloon arrows. The arrows have balloons attached to them that causes whatever unit the arrow has hit to float upward. Heavier units may require more balloons to float.
Appearance
It looks like a Wobbler with a 1300s style hat and tunic that have stripes. Its bow is different from the regular Archer's bow, being colored light grey with what appears to be pieces of leather wrapped around in a few places, as well as team colored leather around the handle. The arrows also have a team colored ball behind the arrowhead, which disappear on hit and appear to expand into balloons. Balloons are still shown to appear if the arrows hit the environment instead of a unit.
Unit Voice
Usage
Their fire rate is much faster than a regular archers, and while the projectiles don't do too much damage, the balloons produced by the arrows make up for this. When hit with enough balloons at once, units will start floating, and are completely immobilized when air-born, which makes the balloon archer a great unit for stalling small but powerful troops like the Super Boxer. However, larger troops such as the Mammoth are considered "heavier" and require many more balloons to float, while a single balloon can make a Halfling float. Large hoards of weaker units could also cause a problem, but thanks to the balloon archers decent attack rate, they theoretically could deal with it.
Balloon archers can also be good against enemies with shields, as a few balloons can make a shield float, exposing the unit behind.
Balloons will disappear after a short time (a bit less than nine seconds, as one archer will only be able to keep two balloons on an enemy) meaning unless you have many balloon archers, some units will be impossible to lift.
Balloon Archers surprisingly work well with Musketeers, as the fire rate of the Archer can stall many units and buy time for the Musketeer to finish reloading after each shot. The Musketeer then comes into play by killing any stronger units that the ballooner has stalled and/or cannot kill. It is especially noticeable in groups of these mixed units.
Trivia
- In a reply on a tweet showing a Pirate Captain fighting multiple balloon archers, Wilhelm Revealed that they will be a part of the Renaissance faction.
- When asked what his favorite troop was, Wilhelm said "the balloon archer and Sticky hands balloon man so far".
- The Balloon Archer's voice is the same as the Archer's, but it's more high-pitched.
- Since the Full Release, Balloon Archer has gained their own voice.
- The arrows themselves do about 35 damage, meaning they can still damage units.
- As of the Bug DLC, balloon archer's arrows become heavy when you toggle the "make balloons metal" bug. This causes the balloons to be made of metal, and instead of making units float, they sink.
