Dark Peasant
The Dark Peasant is a ranged unit from the Legacy faction. They are equipped with Dark Projectiles and the Dark Peasant Hands. |
Characteristics
The Dark Peasant is a Legacy ranged Unit in Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. It is equipped with dark hands, encircling it and protecting it from almost every projectile in the game, and blasts of dark magic, capable of dealing massive amounts of damage.
Location
To unlock, go to the Legacy Map and search behind the church. You will find a black glove sitting on top of a gravestone that reads “Unnamed Peasant, Dark in Heart, Void of Soul“. Stare at the dark hand until it glows and shakes to unlock the Unit. |
Appearance
The Dark Peasant uses the generic Wobbler units base, but with red eyes, and a dark and evil auras around its real hands, and has black hands that move around the unit in a sphere, creating a personal shield and protecting it from most incoming projectiles and grabbing its next victim to annihilate. Its clothing consists of a tattered team-colored undershirt, with a patchy stitched-opening jerkin that pinches at elbow/waist level for a more globose silhouette of the late medieval era, black-colored braies (undergarments), and two (presumably) rolled up hosen/chausses, as was commonly practiced in medieval fashion in Europe's' 14th-15th Century, and light colored shoes.
Unit Voice
Usage
The Dark Peasant grabs Units at medium range with its magic hands and either flings them into the air, throws them to another unit, usually killing both units, or slams them into the ground, creating a small explosion that does AOE damage and also usually kills the intended target. These hands will also appear right in front of any incoming projectiles ranging from arrows to Ballista bolts, which they block. Larger spherical projectiles such as Cannonballs, Catapult rocks, and Stoner boulders can also be grabbed by the hands and thrown away, usually right back at the unit that launched the projectile in the first place. The Dark Peasant's hands can also block bullets, but along with that, the blocked bullets will bounce back at the shooter. This only happens with bullets, such as from Musketeers, Deadeyes, Quick Draws, etc. (not the Gunslinger, though). Its other attacks are firing a stream of dark projectiles, each doing large amounts of damage and causing explosions on impact; you see, if a unit manages to get near the Dark Peasant, all of its hands floating around it will expand then quickly contract, causing a massive explosion in a "repulse" motion with a huge knockback effect that knocks any nearby units back and does major amounts of damage.
Counters
Dealing with the Dark Peasant is not an easy task, as it can block (almost) all of the ranged attacks, and their melee outburst is fast and deadly enough to deal with melee units. Additionally, its grab attack can deal with large swarms of weaker units and distract stronger units.
Super Peasant on its own deals enough damage to overpower Dark Peasant's melee attack and cannot be thrown to the ground as easily by the latter's grab attack. One should be enough to deal with even two Dark Peasants. If Super Peasant is on the same team as Dark Peasant, using Witches to make the former kill the latter is the best strategy.
Thor, the Wizard and the Gunslinger all use attacks that Dark Peasant cannot block, meaning a large amounts of them can greatly damage it; however, their large amount of health is usually enough to allow it to survive even hundreds of these units and defeat them.
A good strategy is to use a large amount of either Scarecrows or CLAMS supported by Cheerleaders, as Dark Peasant won't be able to stop the incoming attacks, while focusing on attacking the infinite amount of crows and clams, which will eventually overwhelm it.
One of the simplest solution might be to throw Dark Peasant off the map, causing them to die instantly, although it's not that easy because of their huge mass. A large amount of Chronomancers on a map without barriers can do that.
It should be noted that if Dark Peasant encounters another Dark Peasant, their battle may last for a long time, as they won't be able to damage each other with black projectiles, and will remain too far to be reached by grab attack.
Also, if Shadow Walker's encounter a Dark Peasant, they will teleport to it and get killed by a single melee attack, even if there's hundred's of them, as every single one of them could teleport right near it.
Trivia
- Almost NO unit can survive a direct hit from its projectiles (roughly 5-8).
- The Dark Peasant is the only unit in TABS to be revamped three times. Originally, it summoned spikes from the ground that impaled units (Can be found in the UC as an ability). Then it was changed to have magical glowing orbs that it'd throw into enemies to deal heavy damage.
- Now, it has black floating hands that stop and/or deflect projectiles and grab foes.
- It costs 9,999,999.
- Because of this, it is not usable in the campaign mode (Except when using Present Elf).
- In the Open Alpha, one M16 could beat it all by itself, because of knockback.
- The Dark Peasant is surrounded by black versions of the Bug DLC hands.
- The Dark Peasant originally was stronger than the Super Peasant, and technically still is, or rather it doesn’t have as many weaknesses and is far harder to kill. While the Super Peasant usually defeats them, they are less vulnerable to the weaknesses of the latter.
- Because of its high health, the Dark Peasant is highly "resistant" against the black hole DLC Bug.
- The only projectile that the Dark Peasant cannot deflect as of 0.12 is the pumpkin from the Pumpkin Catapult.
- Bug DLC’s such as the God Hand and Push have little to no effect on the Dark Peasant.
- When the Dark Peasant dies, the hands around it won't actually disappear, so even when you/or other ranged units shoot at it/around it, the hands will still block the projectile(s) that you/other ranged units shot/threw.
- The Dark Peasant was originally in the Alphas. See Dark Peasant (Alpha) for details.
- The Dark Peasant originally costed 20000 points.
- The Dark Peasant is the bulkiest unit in the game, having 1,322,500 health.
- Bomb Thrower's bombs will be caught by the hands, but the explosion will still be able to explode and damage the wielder.
- As of the Unit Creator update, Bouncy Balls can't be caught by the Dark Peasant's hands.
- A Dark Peasant can kill another Dark Peasant, it just takes an extremely long time.
- If the Dark Peasant is blocking projectiles and shooting its own, it tends to block its own as well (without the intent).
- The Dark Peasant isn't immune to ranged attacks, as some projectiles can go through its shield, with a very slight chance.
- Ironically, despite seemingly falling down like a feather at times, it is the heaviest Unit in TABS.
- In the concept art, the Dark Peasant was either supposed to have flaming black hair or a seemingly French-style Justaucorps.
- The latter outfit can still be found in-game within the Legacy Section of the Unit Creator as Legacy Shirt 06. (Minus the undershirt)
- Landfall was planning on using the early design as it has models for in in game, however they scrapped this and decided to do the torn clothing design instead.
- The latter outfit can still be found in-game within the Legacy Section of the Unit Creator as Legacy Shirt 06. (Minus the undershirt)
- While some think that the Dark Peasant has ties with the Void Monarch, Zorro confirmed in a tweet that they have no strong connection to one another.
- It's the Dark Peasant Hands that causes the wielder to float.
- They, along with the Super Peasant, Witch, Present Elf and Sensei, are not in the switch release.
- This is probably because of performance issues.
