Brawler
The Brawler is a melee unit from the Viking faction. They are equipped with the Brawler Axe and the Brawler Shield. |
Characteristics
The Brawler (formerly Viking) is a unit that has a small round shield and an axe. They are deadly combatants, with their sharp axe dealing massive damage to units up close and a big round shield for bashing and most importantly protecting them from arrow fire. They also lunge on first contact, in an attempt to get the first hit and an advantage.
Appearance
The Brawler looks like a viking warrior. In their right hand, the Brawler wields an axe. In its left hand, the Viking has a round wooden shield. It also is wearing a Norse helmet, leather boots, cape and a belt. It also has the stereotypical Viking beard.

Usage
The Brawler, due to its higher cost, is a Unit that can't be bought in high amounts. However it has few things going for it, which are mainly it's decent HP, damage and combination of offense and defense. It can easily take out ranged units (except Stoners and Siege) due to its shield and it can also deal with some weaker melee units like Farmers, and occasionally, even a Monk. In short, one could consider it as an offense style unit that has been "trained" to eliminate enemies with limited armor, and is most suitable against long-range units.
It is very similar to a Hoplite, mainly because both have a weapon and a shield. Also because both cost around 200+ which is rather big amount for an infantry unit. Even with high cost, Brawler's can be a great backbone of your army. Brawler is sometime useful because it does high damage and it can block projectiles with its shield.
Trivia
- In the Closed Alpha, it was the only Unit to wield both a melee weapon and a shield.
- Their shields can be weighed down by spears.
- It can dispatch formations and swarm easily, due to its attack nature.
- In early access it used to cost 230 instead of 220.
- Brawler's shield is historically incorrect. Viking shields had center grips.
- When implemented into the new animation system, it gained a unique feature, the ability to do a combat roll and evade attacks, sadly this is not present in Early Access.
- This unit is similar to the Hoplite in the Ancient or the Tribal themed Sub-unit Raptor Rider , From the Secret.
- The Brawler used to be called the Viking but this was changed due to the creation of the Viking Faction.
